All Sorts! Egypt comes to Cottingley

We all had a fantastic time at our very first ‘All Sorts’ event on 27 February 2016. The church was marvellously transformed into Pharaoh’s temple for our Moses in Egypt theme.

The children started off by wrapping each other up like mummies in our fun mummy game! We then tossed all sorts sweets into the air by bouncing them on a parachute and everyone picked their favourite sweet and told us why they’d chosen it. We followed this with story time when the children all sat down to listen to the story of Moses which set the scene for the afternoon ahead.

The excitement continued when we divided the church into five fun ‘zones’ and the children moved around the Egyptian temple in groups, taking turns to experience each area. The Construction Zone was a hit where we built large scale pyramids and chariots, as was the Art Corner where headdresses and jumping frogs were created, and the Music Studio where we played instruments and learnt songs. The Drama Workshop was also popular where we acted out scenes with puppets and everyone enjoyed the Special Effects Area transforming the children into Egyptian pharaohs, princesses and animals whilst they made yucky boils out of bubble wrap to depict the plague!

At the end of the afternoon parents joined us to watch the children perform a show of everything they had been doing. Through the performance the children told the story of Moses and the Pharaoh using all the props they had made and singing the songs they had learnt earlier on. We then all went through to the All Sorts Café to have a delicious meal together with our families.

All the families who came along had a wonderful time learning about the story of Moses and how he trusted God when all seemed to be going wrong. One parent said afterwards: “Well that was definitely a hit with my girls, they really enjoyed it! They can't wait to see what All Sorts has in store next time!!”
